WATERVLIET DISTRICT LIBRARY
PATRON INTERNET USE POLICY


PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE INTERNET IS AVAILABLE FREE TO ALL PEOPLE OF THE WATERVLIET COMMUNITY, WITHOUT REGARD TO RACE, GENDER OR RELIGION.  THE LIBRARY MAKES NO GUARANTEE, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED TO THE ACCURACY OF QUALITY OR CONTENT OF INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET.

Please note:  There is no filtering program installed on the patron access computers found in the adult section of the library. 

Patrons must sign up at the circulation desk before using the internet computers, whether using them for internet access, playing games, doing Word documents or other endeavors.
First time users must sign a compliance statement (which will be kept on file) after reading this policy.  If a patrons signs without reading and understanding it, they will still be liable to its content.
Use is limited to 1 hour unless no one is waiting.  If there are no other computers available and people are waiting you may be asked to leave the station.  Exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis
There will be no loitering around the computer area while waiting for a computer to become available.
If two people wish to use one computer together, they must both sign up.
A child under the age of 10 and not familiar with computer use must be accompanied by parent. 
Parents will be held responsible for minor children and for the information selected and/or accessed by the child.
No more than 2 people may be at a computer at one time.
No saving to the hard drive is allowed.
The user will be liable for any damage to the equipment or software.

The cost of printing is 20 cents per page, up to 10 pages (10 cents per page after that).
Illegal activity involving the library’s internet resources will be subject to prosecution by the appropriate authorities. 
Reserving a time slot by phone for using the computer is not permitted
Abuse of the internet workstations will result in a suspension of internet privileges for 30 days for the 1st offense.  A second violation will result in permanent loss of privileges.
Abuse includes, but is not limited to the following:
Permanently altering the setup of any files or configurations of the computer.

Refusing to vacate the workstation when asked to do so by library staff.
Displaying internet pornographic literature or images that are offensive to other library patrons.
Deliberate propagation of Computer Trojans, worms, or viruses.
The library cannot guarantee that staff will be available to assist users at all times.  The user is responsible for learning to use the computer and its internet resources.  As time permits, the staff will be happy to help however and answer any questions and/or offer suggestions

LIBRARY PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY

Programs, events and spaces may be photographed or videotaped to be utilized in the library's print and online publications. Please, notify library staff if you prefer not to be photographed.
